Ex Eurovox User Looking for a New Satellite Box

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and I am a user of the late Eurovox box with cable line.

I am now on the hunt for a NEW satellite receiver.

Now I have came across the following:
  • Openbox
  • Starview
  • Dreambox
  • Kryptview
  • Technomate

My question is which box is most reliable, fast and easy to install/update?

Also are there any recommendations to which box I can buy ( I want a HD box that can record).

Finally are there any tutorials that go with each box that you recommend, that can show me how to install new firmware, set the box up and add clines etc?

Your help is much appreciated.

My perfect box would something that can do the following:

  1. Fast channel change and running
  2. Easy update of firmware and change
  3. Easy update of cline and change
  4. HD capability with HDD for recording
  5. Also, if possible the ability to switch between satellite and cable.

I know it may be difficult to recommend a box with such a niche criteria but something that's close enough will be great!

Again, thanks for all your help!

Ha Ha Ha, Eurovox !!! loved them !!

Ok here is a quick update, to get you somewhere up to speed.

Pretty much all HD has gone from sat, it still works on cable.

A single tuner box basically locks itself to a channel while recording is taking place,
if you want to watch a different channel you will need a twin tuner of some description.

A "combo" box will do pretty much what you want. You will need to pay for a sat line and cable line
if you want it to work properly.

You can record on sat and watch cable during recording, or vice versa.

An E2 box flashed with Vix image from world of sat is probably your best bet have a look on their site.

Miraclebox mini combo is about £150 and a good mid priced box.

There are cheaper boxes out there but you get what you pay for
so you will be trading off various functions like dropping to a single tuner
or having a crap EPG or having to update channel list or cheap build quality etc.

How much are you looking to spend on a box ?

Hey thanks for the reply! Really informative.

So do you recommend the E2 box with vix image? I'd be able to use my existing sky and VM lines with it right?

Also, "nagra3" won't be a problem on these boxes right?

I want to spend up to about £200 on a decent box.

My friend has the Openbox S10 is that any good? He says he has HD but I don't believe him Lol.

very little hd on any hd box on 28.2 unless you have a providers box,sat and cable are both working with hd on cable.

Open boxes / Sky boxes are sat, so next to nothing HD these days.
Plus you need to keep updating the channel lists when channels move frequency,
cheap end basic box, good value, most popular starters box I would say.

We are way past Nag 3 these days, you will need to connect your box to the internet
and have a live cable feed and a sat dish if you want to run a combo.

E2 boxes auto update the channels and EPG while on standby every night.

They are a bit more fiddly on the initial set up than a skybox for instance but once
done, no more messing around, just sit back and enjoy.

E2 boxes with Vix, all set up the same way so it won't matter if you go miraclebox, VU+, Gigablue etc.

Just make sure it has

DVB - S/S2 (Sat tuner)
DVB - C /T (Cable/Terrestrial tuner)

There is a guide here

There are request threads in the cable and sat sections for lines, don't buy of Ebay (y)

Thank you again!

So in regards to the request thing, I can make a request to buy off someone or a company in the cable and sat section?

Also, E2 is Enigma box right? I am on World of Sat right now and they have the Miracle Combo up for sale at £149.99 + 50 more for a 500gb HD.

Am I right to say the Miracle, Gigablue, VU+ have menus that are pretty much the same?

Thanks!

Yeah, just think of the Vix image like a computer operating system, doesn't matter what make
the computer is they could all run windows 7 or 8 for instance.

So they basically would all have the same feel just some models would be better than others.

E2 is Enigma box, they are Linux based boxes.

You can request a recommendation, some sellers are on here, some may just point you in the direction of who they are using.

They will send you a PM (personal message) so make sure your inbox doesn't get full.

See the "sticky" threads in each section like this here

Thanks Bee! You have been a great help! I completely understand how it works now! I'm all excited now to get my new box! haha! I can feel that old eurovox feeling coming back!

Just a word on servers,

when you first subscribe pay for short periods like a month,
make sure you are happy with the service,

if your happy subscribe for longer as it's cheaper, if your not then you can try another
and you haven't forked out too much.
