External USB HDD

Going to be ordering my VU+ Duo and am just debating if I will need an internal HDD or if I could get away with an external USB one? Just to be clear this to be used for recording/playback.

Hi, i've the solo2 and initially used a USB 2.5" HDD but wanted to "tidy" up all my cables and such so ended up opening the USB drive and installed inside the box for neatness....it worked fine USB and internal, I needed the USB slot for a wireless keyboard and mouse, so it free's up a USB slot but USB will work fine once set up.
