Formuler Devices and MAC addresses

Bit of a strange question but some service providers request the MAC address for formuler devices but i'm not sure it is actually needed. It seems that you can get the same service from using urls, usernames, passwords and it got me wondering what the reason for it was. Does anyone know if the request is just a legacy from some of the earlier formuler models or is there something that i am missing?

Thanks!

With things the way they are at the moment I would be surprised if you got either at the moment.

Mac not secure
Suppliers probably won't give dns to new customers.

You can use either and most suppliers have it setup where you don't see the dns for either Mac or user and password they just send a configuration file
