Holidays, tell us a bit about where you have been or where you are going this year. Whether it be home or further afield.

I have just come back from a special holiday in Vegas & San Fancisco. Did i enjoy Vegas? well yes i did but a few things i wasnt over keen on.

1) the heat! far to hot for me. it was around 95-100 Was glad to get back into the shops and casinos.

2) Casinos - mmm ok got a gambling person, but well as they say whilst in vegas! so i had a gamble of aprox $30 in total and YES i did come out on top total winnings of $99.
Rather disappointed in the gambling halls. All very much of a muchness, but what i found most disapointing was no kerching!!! you put paper money in and get a paper ticket out when you win :( LAS & SFAO May 2012 (213).JPGLAS & SFAO May 2012 (240).JPGLAS & SFAO May 2012 (629).JPG

Its a 24/7 city with a lot going on and basically an adults playground.

I must tell you this!!! as it was my birthday we went to see David Copperfield ( God plastic or what lol) but i managed to be part of one of his illusions. He made me disappear. OK OK!!! so he brought me and the other 12 back lol!!
It was fantastic and was the highlight of my few days in Vegas!!

San Francisco on the other hand was fab! would go back tomorrow. Alcatraz - we could see it from our hotel window
LAS & SFAO May 2012 (612).jpg something i would highly recommend going to see if you go to San fran

ok so thats me for the 1st post a bit about my special celebration break in LV and SF for my 50th and our 25th wedding anniv!!
Lets now hear about other peoples adventures!!!

Hey Linny, I'm back too unfortunately, I didn't like the lack of kerching in vegas when I was there the second time, the first time it was actually cash in and cash out.
Anyway on to this years holiday, We are just back from a three week escapade to Cuba, Cancun in Mexico, Charlotte in North Carolina and then New York City. We had an absolute ball, we had been to New York before, but the other three were new by us.

Cuba.
The reason this appealed to us was the fact that I believe that as soon as Fidel Castro dies, Raul will start the fast track to being friends with the USA by dismantling his socialist state, he is currently doung this slowly by encouraging Cubans to open their own businesses.
we only visited havanah, a very enjoyable experience to see so many old american (and russian) cars driving around the place, a very poor country with the monthly wage around €22 ($25, £15)

Cancun

Just a little piece of luxury, we went all inclusive and all food and drinks were included, and unlike many European versions, foreign and domestic brands were included.

Charlotte

A small city with a lot of banking history, and of course a good amount of deep south history (segregation, cotton picking, civil rights, etc.)

New York

What can one say about New ~York that hasn't been said before?? Well not a lot, we love New York and my parents came with us this time and to see two adults reactions to the view from the Empire State Building was worth the trip.
I said I would get some good photos of the new "freedom Towers", I did, but will get around to posting them, perhaps later this week.

Well summer holidays almost over here in the UK kids go back to school next week.
Has anyone else been on holiday feel free to share your holiday experiances and of course some photos :)

My civil partner and me went to, The Big Apple, for our anniversary in August this year, i it was my 3rd visit, and my partners 1st, the look on her face when we got outside JFK was a picture, once we got into manhattan, we stayed at the the Pensylvainia hotel, across from maddison square gdns, they are renevating it just now, so we could'nt get in there, we went to the twin tower site, walked every where, done a tour of radio city, the history of that place was amazing, went to statue of liberty and ellis island, and on our anniversary went up the Empire state building, then up to central park for a picnic, she was blown away, then on the way back to hotel, we went to ruby tuesdays for dinner, fantastic day, it was a fantastic week, never got to see half the thing we wanted to see, so saving up to go back next year, and start where we left off, now when we watch tv, shes an avid csi fan, all i hear is, we were there, i saw that, so roll on next year

Love NYC Last time we went it started snowing just as we landed - was amazing! Been twice and still not seen everything. I bet your partner loved Maceys - i love the place especially the christmas department which is there all year round apparently!
Feeling for all those in NYC and surrounding areas at the moment. Hope the weather does nto cause to much devastation.
Hubbys 50th in a couple of yrs so going to Niagara and maybe stop off in NYC for a couple of days as well.
Its nice to watch the TV and say oh i been there!! :)
Since coming back from LV we are hooked on a tv programme called Pawn Stars about Rick Harrisons Gold & Silver Pawn shop, with Rick Harrison, his father son and sons mate. Fantastic programme on history or Bio. Learn a lot of history along the way as well. Youd be surprised what people try and sell/pawn :) I need to go back to LV just to go see the shop and the stars

@ Linny: Love that show too Linny. Actually met the Dad & son when I was at the CES in January Linny.

Heading there again this Jan 3rd all going well.

feel free to share the photo via pm lol. is he as nice and daft s they portray him in the series :whacko:
One thing i hate about the boys is the way they have their pants/jeans hanging down aaaarrrrrgggggg LOL nothing worse than seeing a saggy bum :(

@Eileen, how did you find the Pensylvania?? I booked in there about 4 or 5 years ago, got to my room, came back down to reception to get a change, did this four times (they even gave us one of the "newly renovated rooms" ) in the end, checked out and went across to the new yorker.
the rooms were filthy, had a line of dust about two inches thick, where the hoover wouldn't reach right to the wall all the way round, some whole floors were smelling of damp, doors had lumps out of them.
they told us they were renovating from the top floor down, therefore they were a lot of rooms short.
It really was a pity as the reception area was beautiful, all marble and chandeliers.
this year we stayed at the Affinia suites, about two hundred yards further down 7th, it was like a little studio apartment with a kitchen area, two double beds, so for NYC a huge room. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone going to New York.

anyway back to the very near past, just back from Salou for 5 days, had been before, but we just needed a break (we never get away lol). the weather wasn't great, but we just needed som "us time". I saw lots of things that I hadn't seen before, there is a fountain that has a light / laser/ music show, was very good (not quite the belagio, Linny) some beautiful walks and an all round relaxing time.
stayed in the Calypso hotel, but wouldn't reccommend it to sun worshippers as the buildings are badly placed and cause shadows, we ended up moving beds about three times in one day, just to chase the sun.( I know, poor Wheelo) lol

Oh Wheelo its a hard life!!! I went to Cap Salou a few yrs ago with my parents and the boys - we had just moved in here and poor hubby had work to do so we went away fora few days LOL! Its the 1st time id been to spain. The hotel we sayed in was nice and spent evenings down in Cap Salou village so didnt see much of Salou - other than the likes of Big Ms so the boys could eat. But did venture to Barcelona for the fountains WOW! oh and the footie stadium which was actually a good day out!

We did Barcelona previously (Oh, the hardship :) ) we went up on our last night to see the fountains there, but it was one of the nights that it doesn't run, we hung around for about an hour until we found someone with enough English to explain the story.
we also did the open top bus tour, got to the Camp Nou - and guess what??? they don't do the tour on days that they are playing in the champions league, so we missed that too.... luck of the Irish, my @rse lol..

Oh Wheelo what day you must have had:( ive got a dvd we bought of the fountains not got round to watching it as yet and bought it about 6 yrs ago, also had some photos done of George and a couple of cardboard cut outs of player and one of me n me dad holding the cup :)

we had read all the bad reports about the hotel, but thought give it a go, we were pleasantly surprised, room was clean, tv bit old fashioned, the bathroom was new, housekeeping was great, and as we said before we went, the hotel was only to sleep in, as we were out every day, and most nights, if it had been like the reviews we read, would have done a runner, but as i said, we were pleasantly surprised, on previous visits with my mate, we stayed in some dives, cheap an cheerful, but every time i have went , and no matter where i've stayed
had a great time, after all you go for the sights ect, not to sit in the hotel

Crack open a can and kick back wheelo (y)Don't forget to park the bus first though lol

Totally agree. our 2nd hotel in NYC was grim but we did manage to get an upgrade as room was so bad. Hotel was just off times square, but was cheap. As we had stayed at NYC before we know we didnt want a posh hotel for reasons stated above. Just needed a place to sleep and refresh. They had no dining area so breakfast was in what looked like a conference room, no lunch or any other meal time. But hey when in NYC you dont eat breakfast at hotel you dine out! :) We had gone last time for christmas weekend and spent the evenings wandering around out in the snow, easting/shopping, it was fantastic. My only regret was due to the snow we didnt go ice skate :(
