The X Factor twins John and Edward Grimes have been blamed for a nit infestation that is plaguing the contestants.
Olly Murs, 25, was the first to complain that his head was itching, closely followed by Stacey Soloman, 20, before the X Factor live show on Saturday night.
The contestants have now blamed the spread of the nits on the twins, who both sport towering blonde hairstyles.
A source told The Sun: "The nits situation is the talk of the house - it's absolutely horrible."
"They fear it's spreading around the whole house and all are blaming John and Edward.
"The contestants reckon their quiffs are so greasy and long anything could grow in them."
The insider added: "Everyone is keeping away from them and their hair products."
The infestation was first suspected when Olly complained just before the Saturday night show.
The source said: "Olly has been going on and on about it.
"His fears then made Stacey worry and she has been scratching her scalp constantly since then.
"Everyone should be concentrating on their performances but it's hard when they all feel so itchy and uncomfortable."
The insider added: "While the situation is not very nice, it's hardly surprising - nits are fairly common among teenagers and there are so many young people sharing hair products and brushes."
However, the lice outbreak has not been confirmed - and so far the twins, dubbed Jedward, have shown no signs of infestation.
Despite this, it has not stopped them getting the blame.
"John and Edward are used to all the stick they get," the insider said.

Producers have reportedly denied suggestions that John and Edward Grimes have been set up to win 'The X Factor' from the earliest phases of this year's show.
The twins won their place at boot camp after auditioning in Glasgow in May, but apparently TV footage has also shown the duo present at the London O2 auditions three days earlier, The Sun reports.
However, a show spokeswoman said: "There is always a pre-audition in front of the judges. They did a pre-audition in London then were asked to audition for the judges.
"They were given a choice of Glasgow or London. They couldn't make London so they went to Glasgow."
Last week, Simon Cowell said that he was praying that John & Edward do not win this year's X Factor.
