There's some good news for fans of RTÉ's gangland drama Love/Hate as the show has been given the green light for a fifth season and there are also rumours of a spin off show.

The fourth series of Love/Hate hasn’t finished filming, let alone aired and already the bosses at RTÉ have commissioned a fifth series of the hit show.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Glen Killane, managing director of RTÉ Television, said "[Love/Hate] has really proven itself and still has legs in it.

"I can't say how long I see it going on for, but we're certain there'll be a season five. We're not looking beyond that point yet.

"In terms of international exploitation of 'Love/Hate', you need about 20 episodes for some sort of cut through internationally.

"Drama is incredibly expensive and we can't afford to produce 20 episodes in a given year. But after season three, we're at 18 episodes, so we're close to having that critical mass and real genuine cut through."

When Mr Killane was asked about the possibilities of a spin off he said that there's a potential for one, but it sounds like they want to get the current seasons out of the way first.

We’re sure to be waiting a good while before we get to check out the fifth series of the show, but at least we still have to get our teeth into the fourth series.
