New Tablet - Help On Choosing Please

Okay, so my mother who turns 70 this week decides that she wants a tablet for her birthday, so starts my dilemma.
Firstly she only wants to use it for reading E-mail, using Facebook, a little internet, nothing else really. She has a laptop, so I don't know why she really needs one, but my old man occasionally watches football using Sky.go, and she'd like to be able to mess around with FB etc while he is using the laptop. I also think, because of age that a 9" (quiet down in the cheap seatslol) SCREEN is important.
My Dad, who is buying it as a present, is willing to spend up to €300 (£260ish), but I don't think he needs to spend that much to get something that will suit her specs. Am I right?

I think the most important thing would be battery life (help me out here_)

I am sort of looking at two, can anyone tell me if they are any good, or recommend something else.

CnM 9 Inch 16GB Tablet, available from argos €159.99 >>> TABLET FROM ARGOS

OR,

Arnova Tablet with 10.1'' Screen €149, available from Harvey norman >>>> Tablet from Harvey Norman

Or feel free to tell me I am completely wrong, but Just don't suggest Apple products, I couldn't envisage learning how to use it to show her how.

Blackberry play book is quite good plus its about £100-£140 brand new for 64gb model. We have one in the house but i personaly have a ipad 3 obviously theres quite abit of difference depending on what you need it for but in your situation i think the play book would be fine. My neighbour whos 56 wanted it for the same things as what your mother wanted it for and he had a test on our play book and decided its perfect for the types of simmilar things your mothers looking for. You can go on facebook, surf the net, download apps as its android based, go on youtube etc.
Have a look into it also its not as big as an i pad3. The battery life though could be better i think on the playbook but it depends on how you use it as well. When you power it on it can take a while but you have various options for standby etc. i havent had much time on it but from what i have seen its decent. I think also you can connect it directly to your tv providing you have the correct cable which is optional.

Ease of use = 8
Setup = 9
Touch Screen display = 9
Network conectivity = 8
Sound = 6
Battery life = 5
Overall and for the price = 8

My opinion would be to stay along the lines of what you have listed, android. Much better app support and availability. And lots more user support to pull from.

Thanks Skyla and Ferg, I do think because of age, a 9" screen is a minimum (skyla's suggestion has a 7" ) , also for ease of use/amount of apps/and ease of finding help, android is probably the way to go.
Any further suggestions/opinions appreciated.
Cheers,
Wheelo

I know very little about them to be honest but I have had experience of & am a fan of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 32GB (Approx €249) but unfortunately it's only a 7" Wheelo.

i wont comment then lol!
Honestly simple to use but expensive! My hubby and technology dont get on, but he copes with ipad.

I would suggest IF you have time go in the shops and have a play with the different brands and see what feels easier to use. x

The problem is A) it is not for me, and B) there are surprisingly few models on display in Irish shops.

Wheelo the nexus 7 is absolutely amazing, 32gig version around the 250 mark, the child has one since Christmas and I steal it on her every now and then.
Stick on the tversity app along with mx player and stream movies from your network flawlessly.small screen I know and no upgradeable storage compared to the galaxy tab but it's performance is mind blowing.no rear facing camera just one at the front but almost everyone has smartphones these days so their not really needed.dropbox will take care of your pictures and videos, that along with photobucket you could live with limited storage. If you can splurge a little more, there's the nexus 10.unbelievable is all I can say. Just my two cents

Nexus 7 is really good and think the nexus 10 will be just as good with added requirement of the bigger screen. defo stick with android so much more freedom than apple. but whatever you do make sure you use topcashback or quidco if buying from sites like pixmania etc some good deals to be had on these types of sites

The acer looks good, latest os is jellybean though which the nexus has and is always guaranteed to get the latest updates first whereas the others are not.
