I bought the V8s version from shopizy2014 on Ebay. Arrived in quick time and was reassuringly sealed in plastic.

Swapped the cables from my basic Goodmans receiver and help! How to set it all up. The instructions are basically useless for a first time installation for anybody who is not familiar with satellite technology. Where to start?
I know a bit so I first upgraded the firmware
Next problem was to know that I had to go to the Installation Antenna menu and enter the Local Longitude number: 28.38 E. Then I rebooted and suddenly the satellite list was populated. At first it kept asking something about a Motor - like it expected me to have a motorised dish.
I had uploaded the latest channel list too and found that the Sky UK 28A Satellite was already flagged as the correct one to use.
I did a channel scan and all good.
At first I thought the picture was just OK but I forgot I was using the SCART connection. As soon as I used the HDMI cable picture quality was and is excellent. My tv is not HD just 720P oldish Samsung Plasma but the quality is very good, better than the Goodmans (SCART only).
So far very happy with it.

- Channel change is very fast, much faster than the Goodmans.
- I tested its recording ability using a Flash drive. I haven't recorded a full programme yet but the snippets are excellent quality. I didn't buy a Humax for example cos recordings are encrypted on the machine!!! Here it is just a ts file.
- The media player works.
- The menus are basic but do the job, it is the picture that counts.
- The EPG is also just OK. Useable. You can't beat the real Freesat or Sky EPG. It takes a while for the EPG on the screen to be populated.
- The Web TV is useless at the moment, not fast enough. I am using a fast Ethernet Home Plug but the speed seems too slow. I'll try wifi later.
So far very happy with it.
- Can I scan another satellite or just that one?
- Is their a better EPG?
- Still got no idea what Clines are and what I am supposed to do with it.
- I don't have Sky so I suppose I have to manually delete them from the favourites list?
- Is it the same as any other box out there?
- Anything else interesting to do with it?
- What can I do with the Loopthrough connector?
