Yes it is possible to soft mod and hard mod i believe.
Soft modding is done similar to the way the Wii used to be done by using an exploit through a game.
There are plenty of tutorials on youtube, if there is an up to date version on how to do it i dont know about it but if you do choose to do it and it works let us know how you got on and which guide you used.

It definitely is possible, and rather easy...I have 2 of them softmodded from a couple of years ago, with an upgraded HDD(up on ebay now :), only did them for XBMC, however, I switched to a Boxee Box now). Still have the USB sticks that I used, i will look in my old PC to see if i can find the bookmarks with the guides that i used.
