Pensioner critical after Navan assault

A 63-year-old man is in a critical condition in hosipital after an apparent assault in Navan, Co Meath, in the early hours of this morning.


The man, who is a native of Athlone, Co Westmeath, was found lying on the ground between parked cars on Academy Street at 12.40am.


He was initially taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan before being transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda in Co Louth.



Gardaí are appealing for anyone who saw anything in the Academy Street area after midnight to come forward and contact them.


They are particularly anxious to talk to anyone who saw a group of three or four people in the area around the time of the incident.
