box will not let me record unless i am watching that channel?
any suggestions?

go to Menu > Setup > Service Searching > Signal Check and make sure you have a signal on both tuners.
Use left/right buttons to change from A to B.
Check the F connectors on the back of the box.
Also try the signal signal check on various channels to see if it's only certain ones.
