Recordings audio going out of sync

My mate has an H2H box and has a cable line and uses the sat side as a freesat connection. He says when he watches back his recordings on an old 500Gb original sky+ hdd inside a usb3.0 enclosure,that the audio will usually go out of sync after viewing them for a while. He can fix it by exiting out and resuming from last played position, but soon afterwards the audio goes out of sync again. I setup cacheflush to automatically flush every 5 mins incase that could have been the problem, but he says its still does it.

Is there anyone else who might have any clue as to what he can do to fix it?

I would do a test recording on a usb stick to see if it's the hdd causing the problem.
If I get a softcam glitch on a recording from my NAS it knocks the audio off completely until I skip it a few secs.
