Rooting android

Currently running Jarvis 16.1 and want to try update firmware to 5.1 but need to root my box and have tried using ones through play store to none working as I downloaded a root check to check it. Can anyone recommend anything that could help me root device thanks

I've never rooted an android box. Done a few phones though.
