Should still be able to add subtitles by pausing then clicking a box on bottom of screen! Give it a trial on a random Vod.
You may have to put up with subtitles for the whole of program and not just the bit where foreign language is used.

Where you get a bit of subtitles now and again is supplier but sometimes they are missing and you can add it yourself.
I had to on my version of Gangs of London!!

I just use the standard settings. It picks up what your devices are capable of processing.

I use a optical lead from soundbar to tv which sheild picks up.

Audio decoder= hardware.
Video decoder = hardware

Dont use vlc for anything seems to be fine
