Broadband and television company UPC has removed the download limits on its broadband bundles and introduced a new capped offer for light users.
The company’s “triple-play” broadband, television and home phone bundles will now start at €66 a month (down from €69) and the 500Gb download limit will no longer be applied.
The new bundle for light users has a monthly download limit of 10Gb, with prices starting at €59 a month.
Mark Coan, director of sales and marketing at UPC, said its customers typically used 40 Gb a month.
Only “a few” customers ever exceeded the 500 Gb limit, but the feedback the company had received indicated that customers were more relaxed about accessing broadband when they knew there were no limits.
Research conducted by the firm Amárach on its behalf has found that UPC customers used broadband more than those of other companies, were more likely to access it from multiple devices and were more likely to work from home.
“Because we have made the investment in the fibre-power network, we can do things that our competitors can’t,” Mr Coan said.
