Vu (Clone?) Firmware upgrade via Security Chip

hi
I have been trying to work out if my solo is real or a clone.

Pics from Vu+ site are a little inconclusive

also from website is a method of checking serial number via a Plugin called Return the Love

following this method the Vu checks out as real.

NOW someone has told me that on a clone there is a small 7pin chip/module which isn't on the real item and I have this module on mine! Located in right hand corner of main board near the card reader.
This chip acts as a security feature which prevents further firmware upgrades.
apparently there are chips available to replace the original with new firmware preloaded (3.2)

Can anyone confirm this for me please?
also is there any mileage in carrying out the upgrade.

my current connection expires shortly and I will need to decide what to do as the provider has disappeared.

Thanks for looking

aye pheonix does not like clones lol, connection you mean your line expires,no problem request in the correct thread.
