Are you using a portable drive ?
Got a funny feeling these don't need a power supply run of USB !
But if u are using a HDD 2.5" or 3.5" in a caddy you need a power supply !!

I have one of these here
and a slightly different model on another box, used similar Hdd's on skybox, blade 5000 & 7000, miraclebox, gigablue never had an issue.
initalised it on the Xpeed and tested recording before, works fine.
Had another USB 2.0 Hdd in the past which packed in, that gave me some synch issues, ordinary playback and pause was fine.
Problem only happened if RW or FF then resumed playing again, especially if you increased the RW or FF speed.
Plug it in the back of the box
Menu - Setup -System - Storage Devices - Initialisation.
(Check EPG is still set to store to Hdd not internal flash)

yep a portable drive that is .. got one on my xbox one ...
Very diff tech to a normal PC HDD in a caddy ..
