Best Satellite Box

Newbie
I am looking to buy a satellite receiver but i dont know the differences between many of them.
I have read the buyers guide in this thread but fear it may be outdated.
I am looking for a twin tuner possibly the zgemma h.2s or is it worth going for the h5.2s
I am also looking for a cheap single sat receiver with wifi
I dont care about the ease of use

Which box would be as close to a actual sky+HD box also

Thanks

If you want something simple and cheap just buy a skybox or what ever they are called these days.

thanks for your quick reply.
also what difference do some of the £200 and up boxes have over the others. Are they worth the extra cost.

Hi, i have had skybox f3, f5s (these are now Openbox branded) for 2 or 3 years and are a very simple and basic box, not bad for the money as they are cheap at around 30 to 40 quid, however they only have now and next available on epg and a very basic feel within menu's etc. Over the xmas period i got myself a VU Solo SE 2 at £169 and i must say i cant believe i didnt get one sooner, it's the only box ill ever need with a full 7 day EPG (after a few tweaks) with sly skin so very comfortable menu navigation etc, not to mention full kodi in all its glory! Personally i would go for that as it is quite a price difference from VU's next model up which is the Solo 2, i think unless i was go all out and buy the 4K box i would stick to this.

The openboxes are a budget box,The xtrends and vu are a couple of the market leaders and offer a whole lot more for your money, middle of the range are eddision mini but this forum has a big zgemma following,I like openvix and they will not or ever will support zgemma boxes

I do not know why people keep asking these stupid questions the best boxes are the ones that cost a lot of money.

The best box for your budget or needs can be answered if you gives us those details.

skybox/openbox = bottom end
zgemma = low - mid

Spend as much as you can the box will last longer

Edison mini plus. it can be a sat box, a cable box or terr all for £100 and with the new H265 coden. just testing one out now and its looking good.

I suppose i am just looking for a box with the same functionality as the sky+HD that i currently have for the cheapest possible price.
Thanks for all your input and suggestions

Go for the edision mini at £79 and its wi fi enabled so no need for a cable,You can get it as close to sky as any other box and its fully supported by openvix

I see lots of comments about wifi but I have a openbox v8s in my bedroom and I have no issues watching premium channels on it, my other box in my living room is the amiko a3 and it is hardwired, see no difference between the two when watching channels.

As for the question, openbox for cheap as chips but I'd go for a zgemma range for the ability to add nice skins like the slyk layout with whooshbuild.

Something that works and looks like your official skybox and is cheap ?

You need a twin tuner sat box so you can record and watch another channel.

An E2 type box so you can add skins so the menus look like skys, with a good EPG.

Sound about right ?

Cheapest out there are Zgemma H2S £80 or Edision OS mini (twin tuner) £99

Both similar specs, but I would spend the extra £20 and go for the box officially supported by Vix all day long personally.

Then you need a USB Hdd say £30 possibly homeplugs say £30, I wouldn't go WiFi plus your subscription to a decent sat server say £40 per year.

The info in the guide is pretty much up to date except to say the Zgemma H5 range are priced even closer to the Vix boxes,
and I can't keep up with all the new models Zgemma bring out lol

Good Luck 👍

Why anyone would buy a zgemma over an official supported openvix with a 2 year warrenty just does not make any sense

Ok thanks for all your help
I think i am going to go for the edison os mini as it is my first box and zgemma seem to be a bit more trouble.
I have also seen Technomate-TM-5402HD and spiderbox-hd6000-hd-6000. These are other cheap options and i am wondering what is your opinion of these? I understand that i cannot get these two boxes preflashed but I dont mind doing it myself.
Is world of satellite.co.uk a good site to buy a box from. I live in Ireland. Where else can i buy edison os mini.
Also where so you find servers for £40 a year. All the ones I have come across are around £80-100 a year
Also what is the actual name for these boxes? eg satellite receivers?, Digital receivers?, etc.

They are closed source boxes so you can't customise the way the menu looks
and if channels move frequency you will have to re scan.

E2 boxes rescan automatically and updates the EPG too.

Buy a box from w o r l d o f s a t they only sell genuine boxes and the support is good.
