Droidsticks or Droidbox T8

Valman

Newbie
Hi there,
I was after a bit of advice regarding purchasing a T8 box from either Droidsticks or Droidbox.

Both sell a 'fully loaded' T8 for the same price but with Droidsticks implementing their new security policy, it has really put me off buying from them as I have no access to static IPs. Are they still continuing with this and does anyone have any experience with the Droidbox setup? I have tried calling them a few times but so far I have not managed to speak to someone.

Firstly I'd be careful phoning them as their support No is a premium rate No costing a fortune, when I first bought from Droidbox I would have recommended them however since they implemented support for static IP's only I would not recommend them; also I have gained more experience now regarding other freely available wizards and their customer support in my opinion sucks.

No , they are entirely seperate companies and it is droidsticks who originally createdcthe problem by announcing that customers requiring the user name and password for their new wizard would have to supply a static IP address when applying. If they have now sorted that cock up out good in them. Droidbox have never requseted the above.
to andwer Valman , if i was wanting a box i would buy the basic box , then log onto totalxbmc.tv. And follow their tutorial to get their set up from community builds called " andys build " its free and it is way superior to anything else on offer.

Which is a half decent basic box? I've been fiddling with Kodi on a Win 8.1 laptop and have managed to get both DroidKings wizard then Andys build running well. Now its time to go for an Android box, but there are so many - MiniX x8-h seems dear to me, but well supported, and I'm favouring an MX3 (2G/8G) now. So any recommendations please?

I bought the T8 and am very happy with it, it appears to be the best spec out there or you could go for the custom Linux version Xunity Auroa; check out this review:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j06XMXRbDbQ

Got to agree with the rest - droidsticks used to be very good (although they have never been that good in my opinion on their aftersales support - with their £1.53 / minute telephone line!!!! and the frequently unanswered email service - never tried their twitter feed however). I personally think they have made a bad business decision by implementing the static IP scenario as most ISP in the UK don't offer the service to residential customers so their sales figures are going to drop. I can understand companies not wanting their work (on software) copied but to value their wizard as more important to their business model than sales of boxes seems crazy - they obviously believed they had created something people cannot do without and rate their wizard more highly than its worth.

Just purchase an unloaded box and add the software yourself like suggested above - Coxie's wizard is good as are many others.

Looks OK that, thanks bbpete. I'd prefer a bare T8 though, most seem to come with some sort of wizard installed. Even the basic T8s seem to be around the 90 quid mark. I might just risk an MX3 for £60 or so.

Be careful with some of the wizards such as Droidsticks as they require a static ip address. There are other free wizards available if you search around for them.

Yeah, after reading around there seems no need to buy a box with a wizard, so just a basic one will do me. Andys build seems good and, like I said, I tried it on Win 8 laptop already, so I'll probably use that one.

Well despite what I said before I got fed up at looking at all the choices and ended up getting a Minix x8-h plus. So far so good. Just got to get Andys build on now.

Both appear to be the same company as everything they have from the wizard to the skin ui, layout etc are all identical. Different addresses though, possibly two offices?

I think what they do is excellent and i dont say this as a fan as i am not, i am on the other side. People pay for their already built tv box and customized xbmc / kodi, its that simple. There are still a lot of people that have no time for reading or watching youtube videos they would rather pay extra and not have to do anything.

So its simply a business and a successful one at that.
as for the premium line. I dont agree with but when you think of 10-20k customers how many of them are calling you everyday and believe me people call for anything!

So yeah the business just couldn't run or would be possible to take calls for free with the volume of calls coming through.
