External hard drive

OK done fresh install followed wooshbuild instructions to the letter
I have a USB in the back port for swap file etc as per instructions
But this was where I wanted my external hdd for recording and time shift
Any ideas please

Put the swap file on there as well as recordings and timeshift.

Should I copy the files off my usb to the hdd then set the paths in software setups

The hdd must be in ext4 format to use for timeshift and swap. Go to Menu > InfoPanel > Plugins > Mount Manager and check what file system is on the HDD.
If it's already ext4 you can copy the files over.

Thanks so I can go to software and tell the box to look on the hdd for the swap file instead of the USB stick I chose during setup?

I'm assuming that the HDD is Ext4 or that you've initialised it and made it Ext4?

FTP to the box and copy everything from /media/hdd to whatever mount the hdd has been allocated.

When complete switch the box off - unplug usb from rear port and plug hdd into rear port.

Start the box and go to Menu > InfoPanel > Plugins > Mount Manager

If the HDD has been allocated /media/hdd you're good to go.

If it hasn't change it to /media/hdd using the 'setup mounts' button (green I think).

Reboot and all should be working - all recording paths etc were already set to /media/hdd I assume?

Just check Menu > InfoPanel > Plugins > Swap Manager and make sure that's working.
