Guide How to set up an E2 combo box with vix image

Not sure if been mentioned already, but when using this guide on the Edison OS Mini (and possibly other receievers too), the Vix Update function though the receiver causes the box to freeze on updating. And causes the box to DDOS your home router causing your internet to go down when it freezes on updating. Also known to cause other internet problems when the receiver is on normally.

This is because in the mg_cfg file you provide, logging is enabled to an IP address. This causes the receiver to flood the home network trying to connect to the IP address, casuing a DDOS attack on your own network.

The fix is very simple. Using NotePad++, in your mg_cfg provided, replace this following line:
L: { 03 } 172.16.1.1 28007 /tmp/mgcamd.log
with:
L: { 00 }

This disables the logging and resolves the issue.

After modifying this, my receiver now updates totally fine.

Hope this helps other people (it is quite a common problem because of preconfigured mg_cfg files floating around on the internet with logging enabled, and the same files have been re-used without disabling logging again. Google searching "mg_cfg logging" and "edison mg_cfg logging" shows the problems it has been causing people)

I have PMed bees to see if he can modify the file in the original post, hopefully preventing the issue for any further people using the guide

Hi,

I have set up many different E2 type boxes including the Edision, I have used this file on all of the the boxes without any issue.

Since you posted I have tested the online update on various models of Miraclebox (3 different models), a Gigablue and an Edision

All updated without issue.

The file was originally posted on a previous guide on this site and has been around for a very long time, if there where issues
with the file I suspect there would have been more posts about it.

If more people post problems regarding this issue I will make the suggested change and test it before posting it on the site.

The threads mentioning similar issues are inconclusive, resetting the router and rebooting, a bug in the Vix image, and a fault in the config file where
all mentioned but nothing was conclusive.

Thanks for the reply, and also thanks for writing the guide it helped me a lot being a newbie to the scene.
The specific box I have is Edison OS Mini DVB-C. Updating Openvix through the receiver kept causing the Edison to hang (had to power cycle to unfreeze it) and crash my router (so pc, laptop, mobile lost internet connection while the receiver was frozen, until the Edison was power cycled then internet started working again). Changing the line in the mg_cfg file resolved this for me, I didnt change any other setting or file. Not sure why this was affecting me, I followed this guide step by step. If any other people experience the same issues it would be good to get some feedback in the thread. If updating works for you though, I have no clue why this affected me, but googling shows a few others have also had the same problems and the same resolution.
Is there any benefit of leaving logging enabled for the nornal user? World Of Sat customer support have also advised people to disable logging when experiencing uodate freezing so seems to be a known issue.

it might depend how old the image was if new update is compatible to update,or box needs a fresh reflash with no settings restored.

i also had a bad mg_cfg years ago and have used bees on other boxes and no issues ....yet lol

Just to add I have the Edison OS mini DVB-C and used the mg_configuration file so kindly provided at the start of this thread and have had no issues with my internet connection.

I did have issues when setting the Virgin Media Skin , which caused me to lose all channels, but that is a different story!!

If say my net ID is 42753 363.000 6.887 then that means the frequency is 363? Do I need to put this value in anywhere on my box for the scan to work?

if in dublin i think that may not work as now using 43217 and i think frequency was 538? and fec auto
entering above info and manual scan.

but googling shows a few others have also had the same problems and the same resolution.

I have recently heard of somebody having the same issue when he was trying to download a plugin, had to re set the router and box to get it back to normal.

So there is also the possibility that the network connection became unstable for some reason and this caused both problems as they are
only related by the fact they are using online facilities.

Blade boxes have the facility to online update channel lists, sometime they go through the whole routine and don't update, other times they hang and need a re boot,
then they just resolve themselves a few days later and work as expected.

I supposed there is no harm in changing the file on your own box and see how it goes but I'm not convinced
it's down to the config file in the guide.

This thread has had over 82,000 views, so I would guess there is a fair few users out there
using the file, I'm sure I would have been strung up by now if it was a wide spread problem :whistling:

morning chaps...need some help please..i followed the guide at beginning of this thread in January when i set up my vu duo2. i decided Monday to update my vix to the 4 from 3.2. i used the image manager and all seemed well. Now i followed the guide again and i am getting nowhere. i have 3 files CCcam,mg_cfg and newcamd.list and i have 2.30 running in the softcam manager. however when i try to place the files in fielzilla i am unable place them in var/keys they move automatically to usr/keys
what am i doing wrong?

cheers fellas

(Clines) CCcam.cfg to var/etc and (N lines) mg_cfg and newcamd.list to User/keys , obviously all files need to be edited to suit . I also change the file permission to "755". (right click on file ,select " File permissions" and edit to 755). The "C" lines will only be activated when using the CCcam softcam with the "N" line activated when using mgcamd. It's not possible to run both softcams at the same time. Not sure but I think that to upgrade to Vix 4 x x needs to be done with a usb update with NO backups allowed , In other words a fresh install from scratch , make sure that you make an "image " backup before reflashing.

dunno how but i have got it all running now again..all i did was put the newcamnd.list into my folder. voila! it all came back on. however i do not seem able to find and install the blue sky skin from the plugins anymore..it does not seem to be there..i have tried to install other skins and they do not appear on screen after i run the instaall console they also do not appear in the downloaded section..i have deleted all my previous backups too.

Hi, just had my VU+ solo delivered and started working through the guide. neither my usb or external hdd is being recognised, do I need it formatting in a certain way please, as had the wrning about internal damage.

For your USB stick, turn off the rocker switch at the back, plug in the USB stick and let the box boot, it should see it.

Your Hdd will need to be mounted using Menu-Setup-System-Storage Devices-Initialisation

First the USB flashdrive needs to be Formatted to FAT32, then as mentioned by bees in the previous post followed by the following proceedure if usng the ViX image. Menu>Setup>Vix>Mount Manager>(the flash drive should now be showing)Highlight the Flash Drive and press the green button and the green button again to save and then exit.

Hi All
I'm new to this setup with the VIX image. I have the VU+ SOLO se Dual Tuner but i seem to be having an issue with pixelation which i hope someone can help with... Everything is connected and I don't have any problems viewing any channels when the Wifi from my superhub is not in use. The moment someone uses wifi (to either download/upload - with any device) I get severe pixelation where my SNR drops from 99% and starts to fluctuate aggressively. It renders the TV unwatchable until the wifi connected device is deactivated.

My current setup is one cable from the wall, split into my superhub and tivo box. I don't have this issue when i re-connect the cable into my Virgin box.

Does anyone know what could be causing it? any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

sorted my hdd and epg setup now so thanks guys. I have uploaded newcmd and mg cam but after editing the newcmd with what I have from my line supplier, it doesn't work. On my kryptview I added, ip address, port number, username, password and desk keys and it all worked fine. Edited the newcmd with the above
CWS = vm.server.com **** user-*********** password and then the desk keys 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14
CWS = tv.server.com same as above

Am on a VU Solo se with virgin, can se all the free 2 air channels but all worked on kyrptview.

what am I missing please
Presume I will only see one provider as only on cable so no need to do the providers order.

all help appreciated.

tried a factory reset and started again. I am using 40160 and have both tuners configured the same. On the providers though it states Yorkshire and then I get time out tuner lock. VM broadband all working and rechecked coax, help please
