Nvidia Shield 100mbps issue

Strange one here, I have Nvidia Shield in the bedroom and I run a CAT5e up to there.

The Wi-fi is hit n miss upstairs so I bought a TP-Link TL-SG1008D 8 port for upstairs then run a cable to each room through the loft from the switch.

When I use an old 2ft CAT5e cable in my bedroom to the Shield then run a speed test on the Shield I get 250mbps (I'm on 300mbps line).
But when I checked in the other bedroom and the Shield speed goes to 96mbps.

I looked at the cable from bedroom 1 TP-Link port to bedroom 2 it was only a CAT5 cable which I read max's out at 100mbps.

So I nipped up into the loft and swapped it out for a decent CAT5E cable but it still only speed test at about 96ish.

Question is, can cable that says CAT5e on it be lying?. I ran a speed test hard wired in bedroom 1 and 2 and I got same result

Well it depends on a number of factors

1. Who else is using the Internet
2. Is the cat 5 cable certified

Cat 5e should be able to handle 1 gig speeds over 100 meters

I bought the cable for a CCTV set up some while ago full copper. I knocked up the cable today and tested on a CAT5 tester.

I Know the cable from the router to upstairs works ok so I can only imagine the so called CAT5e is dog poo.

I just tried my laptop on a short cable in bedroom 1 from the top link and got 250mbps.

Must be the cable I can't think it can be anything else

Cable can degrade over time. Have you another cable you could try?
Google search link gone bad cable

Just received a CAT6 and swapped it out and all's fine, it's running at 470mbps and, I didn't even know I was on a 500meg line, I thought I was on 300 line so added bonus.
The cable I had that said CAT5e on it must have been a blag cable

I just replaced the cat 5 stuff i had with cat 6,through the loft down walls both sides not fun !
Some were cat 5e and like you mixed results so replaced the lot.
I bought pass thru connectors ages ago on amazon but lo and behold when i tried they didn't pass thru !
Had to get more and although these worked better still got errors on the tester so had to redo a few of them.
Think if ever change stuff again will get those vcelink tool free plugs looks dead easy.
