What's new

weird one about no signal

so I have two boxes, one is a skybox f5s, and the other is an openbox v8, over the past week or so the signal strength on the skybox has been dropping down to 5% and showing no signal on channels, including the free to air., but over the course of the day it would pick up again.
The openbox is working fine though and both are from the same satellite, I did get the signal checked and it was all good.

heres another weird thing, when I had the skybox on bbc2 it was showing no signal, but when I put the openbox onto the same channel in the other room it was working, but, it also made the skybox work!!! and when I turned the openbox over the signal strength dropped again.

anyone got any ideas?

many thanks everyone

Have you looped the coax from one to the other? they should have theit own feed direct from the satellite dish.

not sure how to do that wheelo, but what I have done is taken the openbox and the skybox and switched them over, so Ive eliminated that its the box as everything remained the same.
is it possible that one of the lnb outputs is defective? tomorrow Im going to switch the ports on the lnb over so that should let me know if its the cable leaving only one thing, new dish.
what you think?
much appreciated

You only need to replace the LNB if that's the problem.
Cost @ £10 from fleabay.
Check the connections while you are at the dish for water/corrosion/chafeing.

Let me just get this straight - you have 2 cables running from the dish, one to each box?

yes, it was a twin cable, one is going to one room and the other to the other.
so I think its a quad lnb, i basically took the slyplus cable and split the feed to the two boxes, over the past week the one we watch all the time has been pixelating like crazy but thought it was this crap weather.
got my meter out and it was fine.

You may need to run one new cable.
Had a similar problem when I tried to run two boxes from twin cable and one of them was intermittent.
Solved with a new cable run to replace it.

I can do that for the room thats affected as its a fairly easy run, and i got some new cable sitting. so you think do that first?

If it were me I would run a new cable supply first.
That eliminates all other problems.
