IPTV completely down

no 100% answer to this how ever the common thoughts appear to be IF both you & your provider use a vpn....this should be the best way (in theory), just because some people have not had problems so far this does not mean they wont be hit in the coming days/weeks.... things are still unfolding & not all counter measures have been implemented yet...both sides (provider's & ISP's) are treading carefully.... its an ongoing battle thats only just started.

I used a VPN to get round the block and the VPN server is in Southampton.
As I understand it the ISP's are blocking traffic on their networks from certain IP's.
Connecting to a VPN server means as far your ISP is concerned all your traffic is coming from the VPN IP so it doesn't get blocked.

Any free vpn's recommended out there ?, i'm having problems with sub , first after having probs on my box ,supplier said to whack the sub on the pc then he said i need i vpn to watch ? bustmyballs

I keep reading about VPN doing the trick but I can't work out why.

I thought that there was blocking of certain IP addresses and servers, stopping their streams coming through our providers lines and therefore to us. I thought that a VPN my end would stop anyone seeing my true IP address and therefore stop anyone from blocking me from accessing their site if they were trying to do so, or anyone from seeing who I really was, if they were watching who was downloading from a certain site. I wouldn't have thought that a VPN would help me to allow a stream coming through at my end. I could be wrong?!!!
Read somewhere that vpn can unblock your access but using vpn can make the iptv provider think your using several devices and will block you completely.

Don't know about your IPtv provider, but that has been the case with some other stuff like certain webmail accounts which overdo security & some file hosts I used to use. I had times in the past when it felt like I was constantly being told to reset my password, or verify my account.

A lot of the time I wasn't even using a vpn or tor to change my IP on purpose, but was just logging in from somewhere within 10miles of home. Or even at home but my ISP had done changed something. Seems not to happen so much now, prob coz they've changed methods to suit the smart phone era. After all, you could be accessing your accounts from any number of wifi hotspots or cell towers when you're out and about with your phone.

But I would think if you are being identified to your provider via your devices mac address, or something like the app code for xtream editor, that vpn's changing your IP address would not make a difference. You would still be identified as just one device. Plus some sites tell you that you can use your single line sub on more than one device, just not more than one device at the same time. So I would assume that so long as your account is only ever running one stream at a time they wouldn't care where in the world you are.

As far as I'm aware, The way it works is pretty simple, The premier league has employed a third party to identify servers that are probably streaming PL matches, when a game starts this third party informs the six isp's concerned of the ip addresses of these servers and the isp's then just block all of their own customers from accessing these servers, so they are not looking at your ip address or my ip address they just apply a simple rule that all ip addresses trying to access the ip address of the server that was given to them will be blocked. So in theory you just need to circumvent the six isp's networks and you should be able to access the server.

The main thing is this - if you have a good supplier don't tell anyone!
it was also reported that some suppliers who were not blocked by their isp's suffered a ddos attack and these attacks were more than likely to come from a rival supplier, so it probably is a good idea to keep quiet about suppliers who are not blocked. The only positive side to all this could be that your average joe who doesn't understand how these things work and has a firestick or android box will get fed up and stop using iptv which will just leave a small number of tech savvy users, and once the numbers are small enough it wont make economic sense for the PL to pursue them, well thats what I'm hoping for.

I think the genie is out of the bottle with regards to number of users dropping, especially with people all over Facebook etc advertising it. I've got a good supplier and that's all i'm worried about, as selfish as that sounds.

People selling them on facebook and ebay is the downfall. Should have learned from sly cardsharing, but anything to make a quick buck

Well said. Too many people are selling IPTV, advertising all over the place, claiming to be the best and the harsh reality is that they have no idea what they are actually doing. I'm with you, I've got my setup running perfectly and that's all I care about......not being rude but I'm not sharing the details with anyone now, this is what causes the problems.

Well hopefully the good suppliers survive this. I think by the time this is all over there won't be many suppliers left and the downside to that is prices are probably going to go up.

I am like you Beaky. I am not 100% sure either. Yes, your IP address will now look as though you are based in, for example France, for your out going data, but your in coming data still has to come through your internet providers system (Sky, BT, Virgin etc), who will be blocking certain traffic going through there servers before it hits your house. If you were sending out IPTV streams to your friend, and you were behind a VPN, then you couldn't be blocked in doing so, because noone would know who was streaming that data to your friend. They would be blocking your UK IP address in sending data, but everyone would be seeing the data being streamed from France. Get me?
My provider has a vpn there end they say... I can't doubt him as it's solid and the football has been perfect so far.. big test is the fight on Saturday.
