Remove the splitter and connect the cable directly to the box. If the problem persist it's probably a weak signal.

Might also be the the line. Are the FTA HD channels OK?

I did contemplate that but unfortunately I'm unable to as the other output feeds my router. Obviously need that!

I'm going to take it to my mates tomorrow and see how it goes over there.

What I still don't understand and haven't heard anybody answer is why it's always the same channels that have the problem. If it is a signal issue why do the majority of channels work perfectly well? Do some channels require less of a signal than others? Seems very unlikely to me.
 
Yes - some channels require less signal than others. See the thread on h2h glitching - this problem has been covered there in detail.
