THERE IS NO JAILBREAK 3,rumors abound that on the 12/12/12 there will be a new device released but they still say you require 3.55 firmware for the moment and are working on a way to get it to work with newer firmwares,there has been a explosion of cfw for the hacked ps3 but all require 3.55 as starting point,the lv0 keys were leaked and now things are moving at a extraordinary rate,patience will be required if you are on the newest firmware 4.30 and waiting for a hack

I'm new to this but how do I figure out what firmware I have and what to use for jailbreaking my ps3

to find out what firmware you have, Go to settings, second from the left, then go down about half way and choose system settings, and then go all the way down and choose system information.
as for how to Jailbreak your PS3, just have a good look around, if you can't find the answer, someone will get back to you.
when you have found the firmware you are on, ost again, and someone will point you in the right direction
