If you are trying to access for example bein sports then a vpn is required.

A VPN is only required if your trying to access region locked content, like Netflix US not Netflix UK or to protect your identity. A VPN can run slower as its got to go via the providers connections not a direct link but a good VPN had plenty of bandwidth to cope a crap one will slow you down.

If you want a Smart DNS then use this service: https://www.hideipvpn.com I use them to get Netflix US and Hulu on my Samsung TV via the apps, their VPN 's not bad either but I use Nord VPN (https://nordvpn.com) as my dedicated VPN provider, more locations but the client app needs an update to get it to load with Windows 10, at the moment you have to do it manually.
