USB won't automount on startup

apl4

Newbie
I'm using openvix-3.2.021 and I have a problem on startup where my 64Gb USB stick won't automount (set as HDD). I can go into mount-manager and mount it manually. It's formatted as ext4 and initialised ok.

Any ideas?

can you automount with a smaller/different usb?
I'll give that a go, Could be a good pointer, as It was working ok with a 32Gb stick prior to this.

Just given it a try, by putting my old 32Gb stick in the front port, initialising it. It mounted as sdb1. The 64Gb stick is in the rear port, manually mounted as hdd.
Then after restart, the 32Gb stick automounted, but the 64Gb stick didn't.

Obviously this affects everything at startup, as the drive isn't mounted for the swapfile, or epg, or for recording and timeshift. You have to set these up again after manually mounting.

ok, thats what normally happens with the cheap ones, do you have a cheap USB 4 port USB hub that you could plug in the back USB socket of the box and try both in the hub and try to change the paths then, a cheap hub from the pound/euro store does the job too

Sorry just read that your only trying to mount one, DOH! i'm just off nightshift, sorry

beware of fake usb sticks - there are loads of them out there
look on the makers website for how to identify them
I had a 32GB one branded Kingston that I purchased from a well known auction site - it appeared totally genuine - but it wasnt
I only buy from reputable sources now the cost differential is negligible

All this talk of "manual mounting" and "auto mounting" gets the mind boggling

No, it is definitely a genuine Sandisk mini usb Cruzer 64Gb. Came brand new, with 'impossible to open packaging', guarantee and everything.

Apl4, probably no help at all, but I have one of those (64gb SanDisk Cruzer Fit) and it works fine for me. I am on OATV4.2, mind, not sucmnsee's Vix image.

Have you tried giving the stick a low level format on your PC using HDGuru then trying it again?

Do you know how to telnet to your box? If so manually mount the USB and then telnet to the box and run 'blkid'.

Note down the UUID for /dev/sda1.

Then ftp to your box and open /etc/enigma2/fstab. Check that the UUID for /media/hdd is the same as the one that you noted down from blkid.

If you don't know how to telnet, then open up fstab in a linux editor (notepad++ for example) comment out the /media/hdd line by putting a # at start of the line. Reboot the box and then see if it mounts.

nobody bothered to ask if the box was switched off by remote or deep stanby or unplugged?

go on satgirl finish me off send me your photo of wheelo lol

Cactikid, even a manual mount would finish me off let alone my bank account which unfortunately is always empty thanks to the wife and offspring.
I hope our Vikki doesn't charge for dreaming.

Really Vikki, must you do this every time that you pop your head in??? Don't send Cactikid the photo, wouldn't like to make him jealous

I got the UUID after running blkid, but there is no fstab in /etc/enigma2
