What's new

Will 2024 be a big year for i.s.p blocks

Isp blocking will continue as more and more people look for alternatives since Sky and TNT keep raising prices. Just need a VPN that has split tunneling and a kill switch to circumvent the blocks and connect to a country that doesn't care.

Think they will come after vpn providers next. I don't think it will work, but they recognise all their attempts at blocking and restricting can be bypassed through a vpn for the most part

I've never used a vpn and never been blocked, regardless of which iptv or which isp I have used.
If they block a domain, the provider changes it at his end, the isp think it's a big success but in reality it was a 15 minute workaround and everyone just carries on watching what they want.
They can block 7,000 domains, they can block 70,000 domains or 7 million, it won't have any effect

I think they would struggle to police VPN companies as they are used for privacy and security reasons and are legitimate companies.
I have had intermittent blocks with virgin and they have usually been when the epl has been televised and a vpn has fixed the issue.
I have used VPN’s for years for downloading and are well worth their money if you actually need to use one.
When stops are put in place there is always someone round the corner who finds a solution.
The cat and mouse game will never stop.

I think the blocks will continue as long as they need to, it a simple and cost efficient way to combat the streams. its not a permeant solution but causes distress to the customers and the suppliers, which is exactly what they want

Not restricted to just iptv, it affects torrents and streaming too. But alot will use proxy sites to access through also

I doubt the VPN providers would comply to any requests, easily in any case. As someone said before, most providers are very Privacy conscious and would be fully aware that the moment they hand over any user data, it would tremendously hurt their business model. Customers would cancel their subscriptions in the masses.

i don't see how they could, if they are true to their word

VPNs have a use case for so much more than streaming IPTV, therefore I think it would be difficult to target them directly.

I.E to ensure you not subject to a MITM on public wifi, users would use a VPN to encrypt their traffic. (Just one of many reason people decide to use one)

I suppose they could buy vpn addresses like a lot of streaming companies do and start blacklisting vpn server ips but that would be quite unnecessary. It would still work for security purposes in that case. I think they know that everyone won't be back but even if they can frustrate a small percentage of Iptv users enough to buy cable from them again they'll try and do it. The cat and mouse game will continue until prices decrease!

Some people don’t like using vpn because off the prices or they think I don’t need one but if it comes down to using look on eBay they are well worth it.

Yes VPNs are cheap! Like @mike123 said everyone should be using one even if the supplier says you don’t need one, if everyone used one, or if all suppliers built it in some how, all data would be encrypted and therefore much harder to identity.

They could block VPN providers IPs, but there are multiple countries, multiple servers/ with hundreds of IPs from loads of VPN providers. The VPN provider would just sue the ISPs as it’s unfair for a service provider to say those IPs as being used for illegal activity as there will be a multitude of different traffic egressing the VPN providers networks on those IPs of which lot will be legitimate traffic.

So tough one in my opinion.

I should imagine it would be difficult to block vpns how do you know is what is legit traffic so to speak.

Pretty much impossible they won't ban vpns because they preform a good security aswell.

the only way i can see of stopping this is to lean on the data centres to stop them accepting servers as clients.

the only issue with that is the fact that there will always be someone willing to takt the risk for remuneration

They already exist so I am led to beleive

Vpn companies and data centres may get pressurised into rejecting servers etc but it's commercial suicide to comply, EG if some of the bigger ones decide to toe the line, they'll soon be small companies as the minor ones take all their business from them
