Box Freezes (Not Picture)

Appears its the hdd...ffs. The 32gd usb is fine.....so ive had a wd powered 3tb, kept powering down. A 2tb usb powered toshiba, makes the box freeze...a 32gb sandisk is fine?
 
hmm i will and have always said only to use externally powered not usb powered for recordings.
all externally powered hdd should power down and awake in time for recordings,if it does not power down it keeps on spinning shortening life of hdd.

i think i have 3 toshiba 2 tb and some other makes all power down.
 
Thanks, i was confused as the same type of wd drive i have connected to the shieldtv just works perfectly. Wakes up with the shield etc..the one on the zgem would hibernate after 10 mins and then disconnect?
 
any external hdd would need to setup on box permanently and ext 3- 4 so its in the right format and its mounted,some hdd are not suitable and dont work as i have found out.
 
menu-setup-system-storage devices-hard disk setting---standby after 5 mins

also as i use vix i can click on blue button-vix-mount manager and see what my hdd says

your mount should show something like this.
