I dont understand what you are saying.

How is sat better than cable if you can have both line on a combo box?

Cable still has HD and sat doesnt.

It seems having a sat and cable line on a combo box just works out more expensive. What is the best box if I just want cable so a single tuner and not combo?
 
satbox gets more channels on more sats,people moved from cable to sat to tinker on their boxes,cable not much you can do,i still have hd on other sats.
simply put combo boxes are like the old starview hd combo with lan as box would work on both when first sold but now only works on sat.sat has channels that cable doesnt.
 
I agree satellite has more channels than cable. However half the extra channels on satellite are next to useless (regarding 28.2e uk satellite)

As for something like a dreambox 800se, you able to replace the tuner if you ever decide to switch to satellite which is quite inexpensive.

I thought it was the opposite that more people moved from sat to cable when HD went down?

How can you have HD on other sats as HD went down on sat?

So your saying its pointless getting a combo box or a cable box then?

You really have confused me and now I am not sure what to and whether to get these boxes?
 
hd went on 13 and 28.2 due to card pairing,as i use motorised dish i can get sports and some movies on sky deutchland and others.remember people do things cheaply skybox on old skydish=limited view.
6 years ago all hd boxes worked in giving hd channels but now goalposts have moved and people want sports and movies on their screens in hd so have moved back to cable as its still there.
never have i said its pointless getting a combo box unless you dont have vm provider or sat field of view=apartment facing wrong direction to use sat dish.
if you have an old skydish and have a vm package you can use a combo box for either or both.
simple question what do you want to view and in hd? i like hd movies so can get them from various ways on my satboxes.
you dont have to buy a combo box but could spend more on 1 box for sat and 1 box for cable.=its all to do with choice and space as a combo takes up space for 1 box and having duel use,less hdmi cables and power points.

that reference to the starview combo was that starview promised a working image for cable and as usual gave you 2 fingers instead so box only works on sat side now,modern combo boxes have combined sat and cable image for duel use.

If you already have VM then its got to be a kV 780.. If you want HD as well then a phoenix 850/kV HD.. No sub's.. Just buy the box and away you go..! 780=150 quid and 850= 250... Yes they are more expensive but no more outlay..! So which one do you prefer..?
 
I'm in the same boat really. I am currently with vermin but also have an old working sky dish from years ago so I bought a Skybox F5s, but it was just before the Hd chanels went and now the SD quality is very disappointing. So I am currently keeping my vermin account and looking for the next best step up in quality, money is not that much of an issue (upto about £400) if I am going to save a few quid over the next years. Any recommendations?
 
having an open sourced box that can work on cable and sat gives you both angles covered,that means any image you can have a choice on to put onto box,closed source means box maker image only,miracle box seems to be popular with vix image.usually i would have said kv but bad glitching lately due to one thing or another happens,maybe less on another provider?[ you cant change phantom or kryptview ] other cable boxes you can.
 
My apology cactikid, I am stressed and confused on what to do. I am desperate to watch sports especially in HD. SD on the skybox is ok but not great without HD.

Now you have said that you can get HD from other sats and you need a motorised dish. But how exactly would you get HD on sat would you need expensive boxes? Also it seems it cost alot to get a motorised dish for people who just have the normal one.

What is the best cable box then as I have read mixed reviews about KV and phantom?

Only reason I am in two minds of a combo box is that it costs alot to have two lines whereas for a cable box you just pay for the cable line. It seems you would have to buy both a sat and cable line for a combo box.
 
you pay for what you want but if one side crashes you have the other side as backup,some programs may not be on cable hence there on sat,ask others what are they doing cable only or sat.
ok you want hd so its a cable server then.a better quality box that can can drive motor easily [cheap boxes have been known to have issues ] i was going to say octagon sf8 but have been told now obsolete and miracle box mini i think replacing it.

as i said kv and phantom boxes are locked into their server [closed source] and may have issues on hd or sd with footy.
ok then get a miraclebox combo and just use the cable side and use the sat side as freesat=no cline needed,if later you want to swap use the sat side with cline.

you used to get hd on cheap boxes also the same on thousand pound box on 28.2,if you had motorised you have more channels to choose from and would need a multi sat server line to cover you.protek gift boxes were made for motorised setups and give a selection of open channels some in english.

Do you know of best only cable boxes which arent KV or phantom?

So when you KV and phantom boxes are closed source you mean that you cant change provider like other boxes?

In all honesty it seems that despite having access to european sats that have HD channels and alot of channels it costs alot for a motorised dish and then finding a quality provider for a multi sat server line. So I am not sure about this method.

best thing for you it seems is get a package from vm for tv or sub to sky then you will get your channels then when you get problems complain to them.

Why would I get a package from vermin or sky, I am asking for advice regarding cable or combo boxes and would get lines from such boxes.

Please dont be patronising.
 
I had a kv a850 hd sold it. Went down sky route happy with e2 box, then lost sky hd a month later, when I sold kv box they only had 2 sports channels in hd ssp1 & 2
that's the reason I went sky route, Now kv box have all ssp channels hd (a bit pissed off). I only paid virmin for bb package no tv package etc had kv since nagra3 5years or so
on the whole delighted with service no subs easy to operate flash etc. cannot comment on combo boxes i'm thinking of buying another kv box a850 to watch sports & films in hd
more channels on sky platform but hd on premium channels kv, so will keep e2 box and run the two also good back up if one goes down
 
So from gathering information pople have siggested to me the Miraclebox and dreambox as good combo boxes and Amiko as a good budget boxes.

But what I still dont understand what is best cable single tuner box out there? I dont want KV or phantom with what people have said.

Can you get dreambox, vu or miracle single tuner cable box?

Can anyone reply to my last post please?

Can't answer for single tuner boxes but I have just swapped my Solo2 for a Gigablue Quad which has 2 DVB-S2 tuners and added 2 DVB-C tuners for cable. Already had a torroidal dish set up covering 28e to 5w and the old minidish now set to 30w. Thousands of channels, quick channel changing and a whole new world of IPTV I've yet to explore! #Happy
